Sheilagh has been practicing various styles of yoga for more than half of her life. As a young woman struggling with an eating disorder was she initially attracted to the physical benefits of asana, but she soon discovered a path of healing that began to reconnect to her back to her body in a way that was both nurturing and freeing. Her practice has changed over the decades, supporting her through her pregnancy, injuries, and heartaches, as well as shining a light on the many joys and blessings that life offers. More than twenty-five years later she remains dedicated to this timeless way of moving through the world. After many years as an early childhood teacher she chose to transition to teaching yoga. In 2012 she began a year long yoga mentorship program at the Centro Turiya in Rome, Italy, and completed her Rainbow Yoga Kids kids and families teacher training. Upon returning to the U.S. in 2013 she earned her 200hr certification from New York Yoga and began teaching vinyasa and hot yoga there immediately after. Inspired by the great healing she experienced, she then trained to teach restorative, prenatal, trauma-informed yoga (including for incarcerated persons, veterans and those healing from sexual assault), and yoga for cancer patients and survivors. It is in service to these students that she feels her calling. Sheilagh is also an NCGR level 1 astrologer, a passionate student and teacher of middle eastern bellydance, and one of those knitters that rarely puts her needles down unless she’s in the kitchen whipping up a vegan feast.
